Just like fashion, dinner parties have a revolving door of aesthetics & nuances that keep things fresh & interesting. From cherry red & ballet flats to vintage glassware & bow-adorned everything – here’s Hauste’s prediction of dinner party trends to inspire your 2024 calendar.
Bows, Continued
We can almost guarantee that every “it” girl at your NYE party had a bow in their hair – and we’re here to tell you that this trend isn’t going away any time soon. The long-adored bow is fanciful & romantic yet fun & playful making it the perfect touch of drama in tablescapes of all kinds. For those that think the bow is subject only to the girly girl types, we’re so excited to share our Hot Take on how to elevate the bounty of bows with a deep-hued aesthetic, vintage French touches and a supper club-esque vibe.
All The Activities
Anchoring your event with an activity is soon to be all the rage. From painting to candle making to DIY menus, the opportunities are endless. Humans love an experience (hence Hauste’s mantra to bring back the dinner party) but guests also love to be appointed with something to do at an event. It not only breaks the ice and allows guests to feel they’re contributing, but also serves as a perfect take-home parting gift at the end of the night.
Very Vintage
Two things: (1) you don’t have to buy all things new in order to have a dreamy tablescape and (2) you don’t need a fully stocked cupboard of hand me down heirlooms to pull off the vintage look. Thrift stores, antique shops, and even Etsy are the ultimate marketplaces to find your very own vintage valuables that add character and charm to your parties. Be on the lookout for etched glassware, silver trays, and distressed pieces that only need a little TLC to return to their heyday.
Board & Card Games
Whether your guest list includes your very-well-integrated best friends from college or a group of somewhat-apprehensive neighbors, lean on a collection of games to do the hard labor of getting people acquainted in the latter scenario or focusing everyone’s attention in the former. Much like an activity, a game anchors the evening and provides a seamless way to get everyone in the group mingling.
Book Clubs & Cookbook Clubs
Reading never really went out of style, but 2024 is the year that everyone is screaming their reads from the rooftops – and we’re here for it. With that being said, book clubs are coming back in full force. Whether it’s a group of girls or couples, a scheduled rhythm of coming together is so important to making gathering a regular occurrence and the classic book club is the means to that end. Individual Everything
When was the last time you were served an individual portion of scalloped potatoes or raspberry trifle? Same. Which is why we think that a menu packed to the brim of individualized portions served in for-one iron skillets, bowls, and coupes are going to be the highlight of 2024. As you plan your dinner parties for the year, try to incorporate at least one mini course in your menu for an extra special touch that won’t go unnoticed.
Dinner Party Dress Codes
We’ve always been ones for dress codes, and this year is no exception. Supplying your guests with a dress code not only elevates the evening, but takes the edge off of pre-party “what do I wear!?” jitters. From simple “garden casual” to festive “Sinatra and sequins,” dress codes encourage guests to further buy into the festivities. If you’re looking to go the extra mile, create a simple outfit moodboard to include with your invites.
