Gourmet Gameday: Caramelized Onion Dip

Caramelized Onion Dip

Serves 8

Some might describe this as Lipton Onion Dip’s cooler older sister…

 

Ingredients:

  • 2 large sweet onions

  • 4 tbsp butter

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp pepper

  • 1/2 cup cream cheese (room temp)

  • 1/2 cup sour cream

  • 1/2 cup mayo

  • Kettle chips for serving (optional but encouraged)

equipment:

  • Blender or food processor


Step 1

Slice onions thinly into half rounds


Step 2

Add onions to a large pan with vegetable oil and butter, then add pepper, salt, and cayenne pepper


Step 3

Cook over low/medium heat until golden and caramelized - about 45 min


Step 4

Remove onions from heat and allow to cool


Step 5

Add cooled caramelized onions to a food processor with cream cheese, sour cream, and mayo - pulse until well combined 


Step 6

Add to a serving dish and finish with a garnish (we chose chopped chives!)

Serve with Kettle chips and enjoy!
